Autobiography :)

My name is Rebekah and I was born and raised in Ruffin, NC a small rural town in Rockingham County.  I am the youngest of four children, Casey my sister, Ben and Brad my brothers.  My sister is married with one son and is currently expecting her second child.  My family is extremely close and we have always been involved in each other’s lives.  My mom and I are like best friends.  She and I share a lot with one another and have grown closer since I graduated High School.  My mom and I have a lot of the same values about what is important in life.  I love talking to her about her family and what life was like for her as a child.  I did not get a chance to know her parents because they both died before I turned five years old, so I use my mom to get to know my grandparents.  I am very lucky to be able to share my life with my dad’s parents though.  They live across the street from my house, which makes it easier for me to spend time with them.

Along with my family, religion makes up a large part of who I am.  I grew up in a Christian home going to church on Sundays and youth in the evening.  My family is very involved in my home church and I have been regularly attending church here in Boone whenever I can.  My faith makes up the most of my beliefs and influences my decisions.  My pastor used this quote in his sermon last Sunday and it is so true in my life, “You don’t know WHO you are until you know WHOSE you are”.  I am not the type to rub my faith or beliefs in someone’s face or pressure them to see things my way.  I am just very sure of what I believe and where I am going when I die and I feel I, and everyone else, are entitled to that assurance.

I chose to come to Appalachian because I want to be the best teacher I can be and ASU is the best teaching college around!  This school is home to me.  My father, sister, and brother in law graduated from ASU so my blood runs black and gold.  I did not apply to school anywhere else and many people told me I was crazy for that but I did not want to go anywhere else for college.  I am studying Mathematics and Social Studies to teach in the middle school.  I am really passionate about Mathematics and that is what I am looking forward to teaching the most.  I really do not have a preference in grade at this point only that I want to start teaching in sixth grade and move on from there.  I have had experience in eighth grade in high school and my previous internship.  I also plan to go to grad school and get my degree in Administration and eventually become a Principal in the Middle School.  This has been a goal of mine before I decided to major in Middle Grades Education.

I love to travel!  I went one a month long trip this summer to Germany and absolutely loved the area.  I spent a little bit of time in London, England, Florence, Italy, Cologne, Germany, and Bastogne, Belgium, in addition to my three week long stay in Trier, Germany next to the Luxemburg border and one week long stay in Munich, Germany.  I hope to return to Germany in my future and see Berlin, Frankfurt and hopefully return to Trier.  I also want to go to Dublin, Ireland really bad.  I hope to go there on my honeymoon.  I am up for visiting anywhere once.  I would recommend oversea travel to anyone that can go and experience another culture.  I have learned a lot about myself because of the German culture.

I look forward to learning about each other and content reading this semester.  I also hope to learn to like technology a little more!
